Manhattan cool meets Sydney in this 1930s Point Piper apartment that embraces two distinct worlds. Past editor of the ‘Australian Women’s Weekly’ Deborah Thomas spotted the derelict apartment, in a great location, with three bedrooms and separate kitchen and dining room. While rundown, the apartment boasted beautiful joinery by 30’s furniture maker Paul Kafka, although sun damage meant most of it was beyond conservation. “It was a ghost of a once-glorious apartment - you could tell the former owners had style and taste” says architect scott weston, who the couple hired to do major refurbishment. Deborah says, “Scott’s style has a richness, with layering, and it’s ecelectic. He references different places and periods. And I like his use of colour. I also like quirky, which he does well.’
