Mr Medusa’s midas touch. What’s in a look you say. The gorgon chill of ultramodern decor has been cleverly moderated in Medusa.

The opening party was so packed it had been difficult to take in Medusa’s design details. Now left alone for a few moments, I take in the room. Scott Weston’s architecture is all about details. Working within the restrictions of the 18 smallish terrace rooms, Weston has successfully created modern spaces that are a welcoming mix of lush surfaces, fine joinery and rich colour.” Cerentha Harris SMH Saturday May 23rd 1998.

Medusa is one of the coolest hotels in the world voted by Conde Nast Traveller 1999.

Time for a touch of the THEATRICAL. He’s a young architect coming here from Sydney to talk about the drama of design Maggie Blake catches him centre stage. Wherever he goes the Sydney architect/designer creates a flurry. It’s his sense of dramatic flair: the unabashed use of colour, the wit and what he calls ‘plush minimalism’ or ‘restrained opulence’ that stamps all his work.” Maggie Blake Journalist NZ.

2023 we are very proud the red-painted lady is still going strong 15 years later a testament to the materials and finishes we selected from bespoke cabinetry finished in solid queensland walnut timber, artemide hand blown venetian lights to artfully bees waxed polished plaster walls.

MEDUSA DARLINGHURST

BOUTIQUE HOTEL

My first architectural commision to design and document an 18 room luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Darlinghurst.

Medusa the hotel was based on the greek mythological figure and the design referenced the symbolic qualities of Caravaggio’s iconic painting throughout.

From the blood red of the carpet cascading down the Victorian staircase, to the writhing snake like steel screen of the courtyard water feature, large circular mirror echoing the idea that you could not stare directly at medusa or else you would be turned to stone.

Each room though similar in design expressed a feature wall in stucco lucidor and bespoke architecturally designed furniture pieces finished in solid queensland walnut and blonde timber veneers.

A very proud and huge learning curve for Scott and one that has lasted the test of time as many have fallen by the wayside.
