Working with many client’s that have a singular vision for designing childcare facilities that stimulate and encourage young minds to learn and develop is a rather extraordinary experience. Average doesn’t cut it, how many times have we seen family childcare businesses looking like dentist reception rooms with astroturf and pool fencing. From corporate child care to suburban cottages it should be transporting young minds to another world where anything is possible. I mean if you want a looney tunes reception where ‘Porky Pig’ is the receptionist or maybe ‘Willy Wonka’ is going to bust a move in the playroom then take a gold ticket and come along for the ride. We strive to make fabulous happen ensuring the children are central to our design solutions.

‘Bambini Day Care’ Chatswood converting a National Heritage listed Victorian family home in 2003 to a daycare facility without removing the heritage conservation interior, incorporating huge acrylic mobiles, coloured uplighting and custom goats hair rugs. Completed 2003

‘Radio Rainbow’ Royal Children’s Hospital Brisbane completed 2001 where the interior space had to cater for young children and young adults who were long term patients suffering from life threatening illness so it could not be designed for a particular age group. The design focused on a central radio broadcast facility clad in glow in the dark lumiphos while all other walls were embossed silver. Mosaic mirror tiles, silver vinyl floors and cleverly concealed neon lighting enabled the room to change colour depending on the rooms activities.

‘Capricorn Childcare’ completed 1995 is an award-winning commercial interior and winner of best use of colour (albeit 110 Dulux colours). An innovative design exercise in waking up in a looney tunes cartoon landscape where any moment Porky Pig could appear from behind an oversized button backed red velvet armchair or Pepé Le Pew sends kisses while nonchalantly sliding down the staircase bannisters and land on the pineapple chandelier.

The ultimate escapist interior for a child.
