An innovative design practice of Sydney recognised for their directional award-winning architectural, interior & graphic design projects. The company was established in 1997 & focuses on producing singular well-crafted cost effective solutions tailored to individual clients needs.
Architect Scott Weston graduated from the University of Technology Sydney with first class honours and the University medal; he spent 2 years travelling abroad. While on scholarships in Rome and the United Kingdom, he studied at the Royal College of Art in London.
Designer Gregory Phillips joined the company following a 6 month internship whilst studying at UNSW College of Fine Arts. He brings with him a multidisciplinary approach to design, gained through wide studies in graphics, interiors & object design, printmaking, jewellery & textiles - all grounded in a formal design education.
The multi-disciplinary office tackles a wide range of design projects from the Royal Children’s Hospital Entertainment Complex Brisbane to the dramatic & monochromatic shop fitouts, re-branding & packaging of Pearsons Florist ten retail stores including their flagship building on Oxford St. Other projects include residential, hospitality, childcare, commercial and award winning exhibition design work for James Hardie, Vogue Living, Abet Laminati, and Art park which exhibited at Heimtextil, Frankfurt.
Weston & Phillips have created fascinating spaces for education facilities including Bankstown Girls’ High School and Capricorn childcare centre. Both have received their personal stamp that has been recognised in the highly publicised Design Institute of Australia awards winning ‘Best Commercial Interior’ and ‘Best Use of Colour’. Another national design award was added for ‘Best use of Colour’ for Medusa boutique hotel & Conde Nast Traveller magazine voted it one of the ‘21 coolest hotels in the world’ - the only Australian hotel.
Renowned for his innovative use of colour, Dulux approached him to refurbish an apartment under the theme of the ‘modern spirit’ in the heritage listed 1950’s Aaron Bolot’s Potts Point building and was subsequently awarded a DIA national design award for ‘Best use of Colour’. His first residential terrace in Paddington was awarded first prize for innovation in design sponsored by James Hardie.
Scott & Gregory’s ability to borrow from the past and re-invent to a modern context are their forte, so is a theatrical flair for rich and dramatic architectural concepts based on a rigorous set of design rules. This is clearly demonstrated in the alterations & addition to ‘Hobart’, a grand Victorian terrace in Pitt St Redfern.
